OUTREACH 500 Update

28th July 2008

ANNUAL 500s DINNER 28th June, 2008 AD

Saturday night was freezing when Kev, Brenda and I headed for Warnambool for the Annual Awards Night Dinner of the Formula 500s. It was even colder in Warnambool as we hurried from the car to the Bowls Club for the presentations. The room where the festivities were being held was decorated amazingly with trophies, balloons and decorations.

The night began at 7.00 and many awards were given. Partway through the presentation, Kev was called up to give thanks to God for the food. This was a real honour for Kev and he was thrilled to be asked to perform his chaplaincy duties in this way. Kev commended the night to the Lord and thanked Him for a great season.......and for the food!

Awards were given for many categories and speeches were made throughout the night. Kev contributed with a Chaplaincy Award which was presented to Paul Stevenson. Later in the evening Kev himself was presented with the Clubman of the Year Award, which took him completely by surprise.

A raffle rounded off the evening and many big, and not so big, prizes were won.

The night was a huge success and everyone enjoyed a great time together.

ANNUAL DINNER FOR THE LAANG RACEWAY 12th July, 2008 AD

Another cold night! Kev and I made the trip to Warnambool again to attend the Laang Speedway Annual Awards Night Dinner.

Once again, many trophies were given and many speeches of thanks were dedicated to crew and sponsors.

Kev was again called upon to give thanks for the food and he also contributed a prize as the Chaplaincy Award.

A large majority of the trophies went to the junior members of the Speedway seeing that they are regular users of the track.

Kev has formed many friendships with people competing in the 500s and their friends and families. He has also become quite familiar with the competitors of the Laang Speedway, where he is the Speedway Chaplain. He made sure that people knew that he is available at all times of the day or night to help when needed. Generally, it appears that the racing teams appreciate the role which Kev has as Chaplain and they enjoy his company and respond to him as a friend, and spiritual connection.
