OUTREACH 500 Update 1st August 2010 Hi everyone, This is Kev’s report for the season: “Well, another season has come and gone. This year was very interesting, challenging and frustrating. There’s not a lot to write about as the team really went through some difficult trials. Let’s just say we are very keen and looking forward to next season. As they say in motor racing, ‘This one’s gone so let’s look forward’. The season started well with us winning our first race and doing well in the final. Then the new car came along and we were all very positive. With Dutchman Motorsport on board as engine builder, we all thought things were going to be good. The first practice day went well as I settled into the car. However, at Hamilton on the first outing at the Jettco Series, a stuck throttle left the car sitting upside down and me with a dislocated thumb. Two weeks later with the car repaired and going well, I was upside down again! This time with horrendous results. In one of the biggest crashes in F500 racing, the car rolled and flipped all the way along the back straight. After three days and nights in hospital (I spent the first two days and nights in the Maternity Ward - still looking for an answer to that one) and six weeks in bed, the team was back with the old car. However the racing was not helping the healing of my sixty two year old body so I decided to drop the rest of the season and help officiate. The car frame, which resembled a pretzel, has now been repaired with the help of very good friends. I’m busy working on getting the PMP ready for this season, helped, as always, by Ian and Steve. We will again try for the Oval Express Series, where we crashed last season, as the whole team really wants to see how well we can do. We look forward to catching up with you for a chat at the track.
