OUTREACH 500 Update

8th September 2006

Vale
Peter Brock

I started racing back in 1971 and was around in the time Peter Brock came to be a legend. There was the odd time he would help me with a few tips on my Torana with set up and advice. I guess my best piece of memorabilia is when he commentated a Sports Sedan race I was in at Calder during the 1980 Australian Grand Prix. I got heaps of coverage because he said "I bet those are my old wheels on that car". Yes they were. That video is one of my little treasures.

I felt Peter Brock was a good ambassador for our sport and at times for our Nation. It is ironic that he would go out in this way. He was the best of the best and to go out behind the wheel while racing is quite uncanny. Probably if you got to choose how you died, he would have taken that way. We as a Nation have lost two icons this week with the death of Steve Irwin as well.

To their families and friends I can only say I express my condolences and you are all in mine and the teams prayers.

Kev

Suregrip Ceramics sure grip ceramics display

Our time 'on show' at Suregrip Ceramics has come to an end and now the car is up at Ballarat again ~ in the workshop for final adjustments. While at the shop we had loads of interest ~ both from the 'tradies' and the customers. Couples came in with tiles in mind but, while there, the men went in search of the car while their wives went off to the business end of the showroom. As a result, some couples needed extra trips to the shop ~ to check out the tiles......(or the car!?)

The next stage is getting the car ready for a 'Shakedown' run at Bacchus Marsh and/or Laang. This will give Kev a 'feel' for the car (hopefully that's all it will give him a feel for) and it will help him to familiarize himself with the location and operation of all the controls. The Pit Crew will also have a chance to learn the skills needed for this type of vehicle.

Racing dates and locations are on the web in the calendar section so please check them out.

We're counting down with enthusiasm and looking forward to getting the car dirty!

Bye for now & God bless you,
Marg
