What's New ...?
OUTREACH 500 Update
16th June 2007
Outreach 500's first season has finished. It was a season filled with fun
and frustration. Over the 6 months or so Kev and the team had numerous
mechanical problems to deal with as they eased into the racing scene. Kev
hopes his Christian beliefs and his attitude to the other drivers and the
sport in general have made a favourable impression on his fellow drivers.
This year he has undertaken to be editor for the Club's Newsletter and has
had a good response for his efforts. The reason Kev decided to take on the
task of editing the Newsletter was so that he would get to know the other
drivers and team members. This has proved to be a really good way of
forming relationships and Kev's thoroughly enjoying his new role.
Kev would like to thank all his team members for the work and time they've
devoted to this season. Ian and Billy have been with Kev for the entire
season, working tirelessly for him at the tracks. Thanks especially to
them. Also, Kev would like to give a very special thankyou to Steve Gundry,
who worked industriously for most of the season and, due to other
commitments, has left the 'trackside' team for the time being. Thanks
Steve! Danka Dear has done a fantastic job on the website for the entire
season, and also leading up to the formation of Outreach 500. Thanks for
your creativity and expertise!
Kev would also like to thank the car's sponsors for this season who are:
. Suregrip Ceramics who have been with us all year and have been a great
support. Thanks Bill, Joy and family for your financial and prayer support
~ you're all amazing!
. Traffic Engineering Services, Victoria Steve and Sharon Gundry have been
a huge support for the team both on and off the track. The support they
gave including practical, prayer and financial help proved invaluable to the
team.
. Morris Oil Australia Thanks to Ian and his team for their ongoing
commitment to maintaining the longevity of all the racing components of the
Outreach 500 car. Their constant supply of Morris Oil Products was very
much appreciated.
. Full Gospel Business Mens' Fellowship Int. (Aust) The support given by
Charles Rockerfeller and his team in the Geelong Chapter has proved
beneficial to all members of our team. Thanks guys!
. Ray Blick Signs/Artypants Murals Thanks Ray and Jo, for providing the
artwork on Kev's car and maintaining it throughout the season.
. Racetec Chasis & Components Thanks to Steve Carter for making Kev a
'brand new little race car'. It looks just great! It's structurally sound
in design and safety (it bounces well) and had very few teething problems.
We look forward to continuing this relationship next season.
. Homes with Integrity Thanks to Stu and Heidi for the encouragement
throughout this season and we look forward to next season.
. To EVERYONE who has supported Kev financially and prayerfully: Thanks for
the informal donations which have been given to Kev or passed on to him via
another person (sometimes anonymously). Your kindness is very much
appreciated. Thanks, also, to all who held Kev and the team up to the L0rd
in prayer. You are a very valued part of this ministry and we thank God for
each of you.
. To all members of the opposition teams Thanks for your encouragement,
ideas for setting up the car and the odd part or two that was thrown our
way.
Quick Summary of the Year
Nov. 19 2006 Laang Practice Day ~ A lot of potential shown but a few
teething problems
Nov. 25 2006 Warrnambool ~ Great start to the season. From the back of
the field to be running 4th in the final, only to be put out 4 laps from the
end with a flat right front tyre. Credibility obtained immediately.
Dec. 9 2006 Simpson, Stampede Series Round 1 ~ Unbelievable start to the
Stampede Series. A few teething problems but leading the points score by
the end of the night.
Dec. 27 2006 Oval Express Series, Horsham. Round 2. The car showed
potential but teething problems put us on the trailer early in the night.
Dec. 29 2006 Oval Express Series, Laang. Round 4. Running with the best
in Australia and held our own.
Dec. 30 2006 Oval Express Series, Hamilton. Round 5. An extremely good
night to be running as high as 6th in the final. Financially strapped ~ 'no
tyre no finish!'
Jan. 13 2007 Victorian State Title, Warrnambool. Another great night.
Finished 8th in a very classy field.
Feb. 3 2007 Simpson Stampede Series, Round 2. What had the potential to be
another fantastic night went all wrong through silly mistakes on our part.
Valuable lessons learnt!
Feb. 17 2007 Ballarat Stampede Series, Round 3. Another night of
frustration as we couldn't turn speed into results. 'We' tipped the car
over this night but Kev stayed in the car and continued the race when the
car was returned to it's 4 wheels. More credibility!
Feb. 24 2007 Horsham Stampede Series, Round 4. The night commenced badly
but by the final we were flying through the field from the back. Sadly,
after getting to around 8th place with still a lot of potential ahead, an
'unbreakable' part broke! Bring on the tow-truck.
March 17. 2007 Laang Stampede Series, Round 5. Another night to forget!
Broken drive-line ~ one race then out for the night.
March 24. 2007 Hamilton Stampede Series, Round 6. Yet another night to
forget!! Kev was caught up in someone else's accident ~ early night!
April 1. 2007 Warrnambool Stampede Series, Round 7. Day meeting, April
Fools' Day was an appropriate day. We should have gone to church! Good
result but Kev thinks day meetings are too hard on equipment.
April 21. 2007 Ballarat Stampede Series, Round 8. Washed out! But, thank
God for the rain!
April 28. 2007 Hamilton Winter Nationals. Washed out! Once again, thank
God for the rain but can we please have a word of prophecy ~ a long way to
go for no racing.
May 5. 2007 Laang Stampede Series, Round 9. Another night of
disappointment due to bad umpiring decisions.
May 19. 2007 Laang Stampede Series, Round 10. An extremely good night and
even a podium position likely in the final until turned around by the car
behind. Again an unfavourable umpiring decision sent us to rear of field.
Still...a good night.
May 26. 2007 Darlington Fun Night. We didn't find any . Bring on next
season!
The racecar has suffered many blows and has been repaired various times,
but, by the start of next season it should look like new again. We're
looking forward to Season 2008 and hoping to achieve a higher position on
the ladder by the end of the racing year.
. Our prayer and hope is that the spiritual side, which is of course the
most important side, of our presence at the track will be felt more and more
as we get to know the other competitors and their families and friends.
. We pray that the Lord will use us in an increasing way to touch the lives
of others.
. We pray that the Outreach 500 project will become a vital and positive
influence on the track and that, as this coming year unfolds, our love for
Jesus will empower us to be sensitive to any spiritual /emotional needs
which the Lord shows us in this vitally competitive community.
. Please share this vision with us by your prayer support.
May God continue to bless you in your life and I look forward to bringing
you further reports next race season.
Marg
