What's New ...?
OUTREACH 500 Update
21st February 2007
Last Saturday, 10th Feb, friends and supporters of Outreach 500 met at
Kardinia Church to hear Kev's testimony and find out all about Oureach 500.
About 100 people met in the main hall and helped themselves to breakfast
(cornflakes, toast and a mixed grill). After we'd finished eating Kev was
introduced (as if he needed to be!) and he took over the microphone. What
followed was a story of Kev's life so far ..... he told us about his
childhood, his early teen years, his passion for different forms of sport
including cycling and motor sport, his love of trains etc. We heard about
his family and the influence his dad had on his love of cars.
Then we heard about the time he spent in the army as a conscript. He
mentioned some of his experiences overseas and the reception he, and other
soldiers, received when they returned. This part of his life made a huge
impact on him and will always do so.
We were also invited to share some of Kev's more personal thoughts as he
reflected on his marriage to Sandy and some of the problems they had and the
resultant divorce. The impact of the separation from Sandy made Kev search
for God and, much to his surprise, he found Him.....or, maybe, He found him!
Tragically, any plans for reconciliation failed to eventuate when Sandy
went to be with the Lord, following an accident in the USA.
Kev lost his interest in motor racing at that time and it is only now, 8
years later, that he has regained his enthusiasm to compete in the sport he
used to love.
Kev told us about his idea to break into the chaplaincy side of motor racing
following a tragic accident he witnessed 3 or 4 years or ago. The family
had no-one on site who was trained to meet their emotional needs, so Kev's
plan was born at that point. With the help of good mates like Steve Gundry,
Ian Barrett and (last but never least) Billy Andrensek, Kev's dream was up
and running.
We're about halfway through the season now and Outreach 500 is proving to be
a force - as you can see from his e-mails.
Kev asks everyone reading this to pray for him, his team and for the other
teams at the races they attend. Please pray that the love of Jesus will be
shared with all who come in contact with the Outreach 500 team.
Wishing you all God's richest blessings, Marg
