"Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us" - Hebrews 8:1 At the Track ... Easter Weekend Two rounds of racing were scheduled for the Easter weekend. The first night was to be at Bairnsdale and the second at Rosedale. Kev and Ian set off on Thursday, looking forward to a weekend of racing with time to relax before and after, as they were booked into a motel for four days. As Kev so aptly put it “Murphy also came along for the ride ‘What could go wrong went wrong’.” Bairnsdale Speedway Heat 1: Kev was in the highest points group. The car ran well and he finished 5th. Heat 3: The drive shaft broke, causing the chain to disintegrate, putting Kev on the infield and out for the remainder of the race. Ian and Kev worked energetically and so by the start of the next event the car was ready to race. However, the rains came with a vengeance and the night was washed out with two inches of rain falling on the track in just twenty minutes! Everything was awash! Rosedale Speedway Heat 1: Ian and Kev eagerly lined up for the 1st race. The car was going well BUT.....................the chain broke ~ again! This happened right when Kev was nearing the chequered flag! A disappointed Kev rolled to a stop about 50 metres short of the finish line. The team had already used up two chains and no parts were available to fix the shaft so it was back into the trailer for the night! The team headed home to fix their problems and prepare for Horsham, which is the next Stampede Round. Kev philosophically quoted “As they say in the classics, ‘That’s motor racing’.” He must mean Classic Films because I’ve never seen him reading a Classic Book! (Except the Bible!) Kev thanks God that, although there have been some hassles, the car hasn’t sustained any real damage. Please remember to pray for the team and also to say ‘Hello’ if you’re ever at any of the tracks.
