At the Track ...Latest update as of 14th January, 2008  Avalon Speedway, Saturday 12th January I guess you won't need much comment~just look at the picture! Saturday was gorgeous. Mid 20s no wind, just beautiful. Kev told us to get to the track about 6.30 to 7.00 and "we'd be fine". Well... We arrived at the track at 6.30 and I thought the noise I could hear was the 500s. We picked the short line at the ticket box but by the time we'd reached the track, it was empty! 6.30 wasn't early enough. We missed the 'hot laps' which proved to be Kev's best laps for the night! When the 500s came out for the 1st race Kev's little car looked bright and shiny and optimistic. He was towards the back of the field but looked cheeky and ready to go. The race finally started and Kev seemed to be 'on the ball'. He was going like a little terrier and making ground. We cheered him on as he rounded the corner near the pits and sped into the straight ~ alas!!!! as his little car ducked down to pass the car in front we watched in absolute horror as that car cut down too and Kev's front wheels rode over him. This was the beginning of a scary ride for him, and for us as we watched helplessly as he took off and became airborne!!! After what seemed an eternity, his little car finally rested (on it's left side) and finally we saw Kev emerge and RUN off the track for help ~ just maybe they could put together this complete wreck in time for the next race! NO WAY! That car went home in pieces ~ the ones that weren't given away to the fans, that is! Kev was rapt with the way all the emergency services responded considering that he had a ruptured fuel tank and fuel was going everywhere! Maybe Avalon was an appropriate place for this to happen.
