At the Track ...

Update - 24th February, 2007

Steve Gundry was up in Queensland with his family for the week so Kev, Ian and Billy, with Ian's wife Tracey, headed off for Horsham Blue Ribbon Raceway.

On arriving at the track, the team waited for the replacement carbies that Stephen Bell had organised for the Outreach 500 car. Thanks to Ben McLoud for the use of his carbies on the night. The problem's well on the way to being fixed now.

Kev was called for "Hot Laps" and the car ran well during that time. There was only a short turn-around time between Hot Laps and the first heat. When the engine was started, Ian noticed coolant pouring out which was found to be a split hose on the engine. The Team missed the start: Not a good start to the night.

Next race, started from pole but due to a driving error, Kev dropped back to fourth. (A fellow competitor took out the left hand front wheel, which was no fault of his). Kev tried to race on but his steering was "up the creek" and he had to retire.

Third race Kev started from fifth, the car having been repaired thanks to Billy and Ian. It's really good to see how members from other teams are quick to help whenever there's a need. Thanks Greg. It was running like a dream and Kev finished third.

FINAL: Kev reports: "Because we had a bad result, we were last in the final. There were 20 cars and one didn't start. I got to go from 19th. At the start, I went forward. Every car passed was passed under racing conditions. It was probably the best speedway race I have ever had. I slowly and methodically picked cars off. I went from 19th to 9th in ten laps. It was very exciting. However, with about 5 laps to go a main bolt in the left side of the rear axle broke (unreal!) and the whole rear end collasped! This locked up the driveline and did heaps of damage. The car came back on the tow truck! It was a real shame as the car was perfact and we really felt that a 5th or 6th place was achievable! The set up for the final was spot on! Unfortunatily, we're well out of winning this series this year! Thank goodness ~ winning's NOT our goal! (But Kev'd like to!)"

Although the last two race meetings have been disappointing and frustrating, we've been blessed by God that the damage is minimal, compared to what could have been the result and we're establishing friendships with other team's members.

Please continue to pray as we have 3 weeks to pick up the pieces and get the car back to race-standard. We believe the goal of becoming accepted as a force on the track has been achieved.

Goodbye and God bless, Marg
