"Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us" - Hebrews 8:1 At the Track ... The Victorian Title Warnambool, Saturday 21st March, 2009 AD Saturday dawned bright and sunny, with the promise (threat) of rain later on in the day. Kev and Ian loaded up and hit the road for Warnambool around midday; much earlier than usual because the action would begin at 4.30 instead of the usual 6.30ish. This Saturday was BIG, being the Victorian Titles for 500s and Sprint Cars. This promised to be an action-packed night. At 4.30, when we arrived at the track, the temperature was mid 30’s and sultry. We hoped the rain would hold off just long enough...... The track looked good. Comments during the night proved that it was in top form. Event1: Heat 2 Kev started out 6th in a field of 10. Stoppage due to a crash in lap 6. Restarted 9th, finished 8th. Sadly, the car wasn’t as quick as it had been at Bordertown. The Official Opening with the National Anthem found Kev delivering the prayer to the spectators over the public address system. This was a real privilege and he thanks God for the opportunity to share his faith in this public way. Event 3: Heat 5 Kev started 2nd in a field of 10, finished 3rd. An exciting heat with Kev holding off the other drivers well, only giving away one place. During the heat Kev received a bump which was to impact Heat 7. Event 5: Heat 7 Kev was 9th in a field of 10 but, due to the damage which he’d already sustained, ‘something’ gave way and he span out and was unable to continue. Kev sat out the rest of the race in the middle of the track and was unable to resume racing for the rest of the night ~ the damage was too severe! The night was exciting and quite volatile in some ways with high speed and accidents. We were relieved to see Kev safe and sound at the end of the evening. Thanks again to Ian who works enthusiastically with Kev to keep the car on the track and performing to it’s highest ability ‘on the night’.
