"Let us run with perseverance the race that is set before us" - Hebrews 8:1 At the Track ... AVALON SPEEDWAY, 21st February On Saturday the weather was clear and warm with almost no wind. The track looked good (to me)! Kev’s car was bright and shining and he and Ian were looking forward to a good night’s racing! A large group of friends and supporters turned up to watch the night’s action and they wouldn’t be disappointed! Heat 1 Kev was 5th in a field of 11......... Finished 7th. The car was going well and Kev was pleased with the way it handled and it’s speed. Heat 3 6th in a field of 12.......................Finished 3rd. This was a terrific heat for Kev. As he went past near the finish of the race we heard the commentator complimenting the ’60 Year Old!’ Kev would have been most disgusted with that if he’d heard because he’s proud that he’s the ‘almost 61 Year Old!’ Heat 6 3rd in a field of 10.................................Finished 3rd. Kev was competing against the highest qualifiers of the night so the result was exciting!!! Feature ~ 20 laps The 1st lap was full of action with 2 nasty crashes resulting in 3 cars leaving the field. Following the crash Kev felt that the car was difficult to handle which he later realised was the result of a dislodged suspension pin, caused when he had been hit on the back when one of the cars bumped him heavily during the accident. He struggled to keep on track for most of the race and this resulted in him losing ground and, after another stoppage in the 16th lap, he finished the race 8th out of a field of the 10 remaining cars. We all thought it was a fantastic effort and the team was pleased with the night’s work. Kev couldn’t contain his excitement ~ “I COULD HAVE FINISHED 3RD!” Thanks to everyone for their support and special thanks again to Ian and Rob for their expertise and everyone else who offered practical advice or words of encouragement. Kev and the Outreach 500 team are currently running 3rd in Victoria in the Stallard Series and he says he’ll be very happy if he finishes the season in the Top Ten. Next race ~ THE AUSTRALIAN TITLE at Bordertown.
