REPORT FROM THE AOG MEN'S CONFERENCE 21st & 22nd July
The Outreach 500 car was transported to Melbourne on Friday morning 21st July and positioned in the foyer
with Richard Emmerson's Speedcar. Both vehicles were placed at strategic locations in the entry area with
many exotic machines at various points around the venue. Being an 'all male' conference the blokes were all
keen to check out the machines. Harleys, Mustangs, Ferraris, Drag Cars, Speedway machines, a big block engine,
etc. Kev described it as a 'testosterone dream come true'. He said that the best part was that they were all
Christian men showing that "God wants us to enjoy what He has given us."
The speakers encouraged the men to be men: Men of God. The whole theme was set around being 'real' and being 'you'. Kev reported that it was a bit strange being at such a huge event because he had never been to this type of meeting before. The praise and prayer was very powerful. Both Steve and Kev were there for both Friday and Saturday.
What was achieved for OUTREACH500? Only God will answer that question. However Kev and Steve thought it was a terrific public relations exercise. Many men spoke with them on various topics ranging from "Why is my LPG mileage down in my Ford?", to "What is Outreach 500 and the concept all about?". Kev and Steve felt that during the time they spent there they made many new contacts and friends. Only time will show if the goals we set for ourselves will come to anything but, overall, this was a very positive exercise.
Some of the photos Steve took while at the conference are displayed on the right. Kev and Steve were given an invitation to attend next year's conference with the possibility of doing a demonstration drive. "Of course we had to give that a lot of thought…..NOT! If that does come off and we are to be there I feel it will be a good way to show that men of God are real."
Again thanks to Steve for towing the trailer up to Melbourne and back.
Please don't hesitate to say hello if you're at the races and we very much value your ongoing prayer support.
May God bless and keep you,
Marg
